Boostedge OverSea

The BoostEdge OverSea Telecom Edition is an end-to-end distributed optimisation architecture which is dedicated to ISPs connected to the Internet through a long-haul (satellite or submarine cable).

Thanks to its end-to-end collaborative architecture, BoostEdge OverSea compresses and optimizes both the upstream (backbone) and downstream (access network) traffic achieving up to 75% traffic reduction by combining cloud-driven cache, end-to-end specific compressions and various content aware optimizations.

BENEFITS

  • Decreases the banwidth fee
  • Allows to handle additional users within the same architecture and thus increases the ARPU
  • Improves response time and the users’ experience

ARCHITECTURE

The BoostEdge OverSea © Telecom Edition includes two components:

  • The Internet Core Compressor (ICC), located upstream of the long-haul either in our cloud or in the ISP’s premises, compresses and optimizes the traffic sent over the backbone.
  • The Local Traffic Manager (LTM) redirects the non local traffic toward the ICC. This feature is also supported by the PetaCache

FEATURES

  • Lossless compression
  • Advanced content-aware optimizations
  • Protocol enhancements, connection management
  • Remote cache control
  • Content modification and insertion
  • URL rewriting
  • Cache
  • geo load-balancing, geo-redirection
  • Web Application Firewall
  • Ultra fine and accurate tuning of requests and replies content processing

They fall in four categories:

BANDWIDTH MANAGEMENT, OPTIMIZATION

BoostEdge PetaCache ® applies usual lossless compression as well as many advanced content-aware optimizations such as image optimization, PDF and flash optimization, CSS and javascript minification. This leads to efficiently reduce the bandwidth consumption, and increase available bandwidth per user. This makes it possible to control en even reduce network operation cost.

Transparent Proxy Insertion Modes

The transpatent proxy is used to process HTTP traffic in an any-to-any configuration such as in the case of an ISP which processes many users to every web sites in the world. Transpartent proxy means that the users neither know that they browse the Internet via the proxy nor they have to configure their browsers to do so.

There are several manners to insert and connect BoostEdge in the network in order to deploy it as a transparent proxy:

  • 2 links inline IP-transparent
  • 2 links inline IP-less
  • 1 link next hop
Running as a proxy

A proxy, requires to be declared in all browsers and user-agents configuration which is the main drawback of this deployment. However it can be some time useful so BoostEdge PetaCache supports this deployment.

ULTRA FINE REQUEST HANDLING POLICY

  • Discriminates on: host-name, requtest uripath, query-string parameters, user-agent, standard HTTP request header, extra HTTP headers, network behaviour, time
  • Comparison methods: any, exact match, virtual-path, extention, simple pattern, advanced regular expressions, scriptable functions, DSO C function.
  • PCEF/PCRF: radius, PIR2 policy gateway, HTTP enrichments, Dynamic Generated Query Handling Profile

CACHING

The Local Traffic Manager embeds every caching features of BoostEdge PetaCache.

In addition, the cache takes advantage of the cloud by enabling the cloud-driven mode. This mode enhances the content-driven retrieval mechanism. It also sends directives which improves the cache storage efficiency.
